The trading standards service delivers the standards by which we can live without fear of becoming a victim of fraud or other criminal activity. Trading standards professionals have the power to enforce the law that governs the way we buy, sell and hire goods and services. Through this, consumers are protected from shady and dangerous practices and honest businesses are able to trade openly in a fair and competitive market.
If you would like to know more about a career in Trading Standards in general, or the local universities that have currently got courses in this area then please view the Trading Standards Jobs and Careers Information page.
Are you particularly interested in law enforcement, investigating issues such as unfair and illegal clauses in business contracts, and seeking out those who are intent on flouting consumer protection laws? Do you have the skills to deal with a wide range of people, providing help to local businesses and the community? Then a career as a Fair Trading Officer with the Trading Standards Service could be for you.

Monitoring our performance & feedback

We will regularly monitor our response times and other matters referred to on this page
Where practicable we will check to see whether compliance with the law improves as a result of our efforts
As with most organisations the resources which are available do not enable us to do all that we would like. We therefore have to prioritise our activities. Please indicate how important some of the major areas of activity are to you by completing the Customer Consultation Form.
Alternatively you can e-mail into the Leicestershire Trading Standards Service and inform us of your complaint, comment or commendation.
