Sebastian Darke, Prince of Fools by Philip Caveney
What is it about? Sebastian Darke is about a man called Sebastian Who is a Jester and goes to Keladon in search of employment. With his winging talking Buffalope Max they encounter many adventures and meet an exceptionly small but amazing warrior Cornelious who Is also on his way to Keladon; but is seeking employment as a member of the crimson cloak the kings royal guard! As well as bumping into Brigands and Lupers they also rescue Princess Kerin of Keladon, King Septimus' neice. As they enter Keladon they are greeted by King Septimus who is not all as he seems. Why did you like it? I liked it because there was a lot of action altough the start was a bit dull Who would you recommend it to? Ages 8-12 Tom (11) gave it 7/08 What is it about? A 17-year-old boy who has a human father- an excellent jester, and an elvish mother. After his father's death, he promised his mother to travel to Keladon to become a jester, like his father to King Septimus (the Slaphead). This would all be much easier if he could tell a joke, or if the King was much less evil. Why did you like it? At first, I didn't like it because it was quite slow and boring, but when I was about a quarter of the way through, it started to get really interesting. I also liked it because, at first, I thought that the ending would be quite predictable, but there was a very unexpected twist at the end. Also, I thought that it was a bit strange because, on the back of the cover, the picture is of a forest on fire. Having seen this, I thought that, at some point in the book, there would be a fire in a forest, but this didn't happen! Having said that, overall, I thought that it was an excellent book and would definately read the sequel- Sebastian Darke- Prince of Pirates. Who would you recommend it to? Anyone who likes adventures and fantasy books would love this book, especially if they also like talking animals, romance and a good laugh! Catty (12) gave it 7/08

The Spook's Apprentice by Joseph Delaney
What is it about? the tale of Tom Ward, a boy who lives in a place called the country. He is the 7th son of a 7th son and this makes him special. His mam and dad find him an apprenticeship with the local spook and the story tells the tale of the adventures he has while completing his apprenticeship. It is the first of five books called the Wardstone Chronicles. Why did you like it? I really enjoyed this book and could not put it down for a second. The best part is the absolute readability of the book which the writer creates perfectly. This is shortly followed by the storyline itself which is second to none. The author has such a great originality about his work and he creates history to everything. There is not a stone left unturned and he has the answer for everything. But after saying this I would hasten to add that he does not give the information away; he is quite secretive but in a good way and the whole series is very addictive. Who would you recommend it to. The company that has published the books states that they are perfect for the reader who has outgrown Harry Potter and I totally agree with them! Victoria (12) gave it 7/08
