The Friends of Charnwood Museum

Charnwood Museum has a very active and enthusiastic Friends organisation that support the museum through research, promotion and fund-raising. Many members are very knowledgeable about local history and have assisted the museum with many research projects and exhibitions. Friends also volunteer at events. Friends’ publications on local history are available in the museum shop.
Recent Friends projects have included exhibitions on “Mountsorrel: a place of stone” and “Skevington and the Chartists” and creation of a new display and accompanying booklet on “the making of Loughborough”. The Friends are currently researching and producing an exhibition entitled The Lacemakers’ Story: Loughborough, Luddites and Long Journeys” which will open at Charnwood Museum in April 2007.
The Friends of Charnwood Museum hold a popular series of monthly lectures on Friday evenings throughout the autumn, winter and spring. Topics range from local social, industrial and family history to geology, archaeology and natural history. Individual Membership costs £5 (£3 concessions). Household Membership costs £8 (£5 concessions). Friends receive regular newsletters about activities at the museum.
