Legacy of Partition

Stories

Raj Kumary Bowry wrote her memories of Indian Independence and the Partition of the country down on paper before she gave an oral history interview.  It is these written memories which are reproduced here.  Her interview will appear on these pages in due course, after it has been transcribed.
Raj was present at Gandhi's funeral, and she walked in the procession.  Manjula presented rose petals to Nehru wearing 'a beautiful white salwar kameez' when she was a schoolgirl.  Her family, like Raj's family before, encouraged women to have a good education and to make something of their lives.
Interviews with other surviviors of Partition will appear on this page as the project progresses.
