Summary of current catalogue coverage

Only certain records have so far been entered on the database. Work is ongoing to convert our old paper lists and import data from other formats. Please return frequently as lists of newly-deposited and converted records are being added all the time. Most of our catalogues (including our library catalogue) are still only available in our searchroom. but all new lists completed since 2006 are available online.
The following is a summary of the main collections which have so far been added to the online catalogue. A large proportion of these are from family and estate collections, including :
  • Herrick family of Beaumanor, 1277-1930
  • Hazlerigg family of Noseley, c.1220-1931, containing correspondence of Sir Arthur Hesilrige, 1648-1650 (including letters from Oliver Cromwell)
  • Martin family of Anstey and Woodhouse, 1574-1947, including letters from Florence Nightingale
  • Correspondence of the Paget family of Lubenham, 1638-1905, including letters from William Wilberforce, Robert Peel and Daniel O'Connell
  • Records of the Gumley Hall Estate, 1648-1967
  • Stoughton Estate papers, c.1870-c.1943
  • *New* Gretton (Sherard) family of Stapleford, late 12thC. - 1941, including estate records for Leicestershire, Rutland and elsewhere
  • *New* Turville Constable Maxwell of Husbands Bosworth, 1300-1963, including letters to and from France, 1784-1789
Other catalogues of collections made available are :
  • Leicestershire Quarter Sessions records, 1678-1974 (over 8,000 records in more than 100 different series), covering all aspects of the county's administration and justice from courts, licensing and registrations to elections, transport and the militia
  • Records of the National Coal Board in Leicestershire, c.1800-1994, comprising business and planning records and maps and plans of mines
  • Records of Carlton Hayes Hospital, Narborough (formerly Leicestershire and Rutland Mental Hospital/Lunatic Asylum), 1836-1989
  • Knighton St. Mary Magdalene & St. Guthlac Parish records, 1653-2000
  • *New* Wyggeston Grammar School for Boys, Leicester, 1877-1976
  • *New* Thomas Monke's Charity in Measham, Shenton and Whitwick, Leics. and Austrey, Warks., 1713-1993
