Resource Box

Resource Box LogoResource Box is a large collection of museum objects, models replicas and natural history specimens.  Most of the original objects date from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries but we have some archaeological material and replica items from the Tudor period to 18th centuries.  We also have models of historic buildings, ships and people.  Resource Box also includes objects from different parts of the world and different cultures, and a collection of studio ceramics and modern glass.
There is a large collection of birds in the natural history section and some mammals – all animals have died of natural causes, and no animal has been hunted or killed for use in this collection.  Natural history specimens are widely used by schools, art groups and environmental groups.

What can we use it for?

Resource Box can be used in many different ways but here are some of the most  popular uses:
  • Supporting formal education and and the National Curriculum – History, Geography, English, Science, Art & Design, Design & Technology, Citizenship, religious Education……
  • Creative Writing
  • Reminiscence work
  • Theatrical props
  • community displays
  • to support history groups
  • For use in talks and lectures….
  • I’m interested but……
If you think Resource Box might be useful but you’re not quite sure, get in touch with us – there are lots of different ways that objects can be combined for different purposes and we’re here to help you.
Resource Box Delivery

How much does it cost?

If your group is based in or meets in Leicestershire then you can borrow up to 25 Resource Box items for free.  If you are in Leicester we will make a modest charge depending on how much you borrow.   You can collect and return items from The Sherrier Centre yourself, or for an additional charge we can deliver and collect.

How long can we keep the loans for?

Schools borrow from resource Box on a termly basis and we deliver during the first 2 weeks of term and collect during the last two weeks.  Non school borrowers can borrow at any time of year and the period of the loan is tailored to your requirements. (There may be a time limit on particularly popular items).
