Ragged Robbin (Lychnis flos-cuculi)

To the south of the main museum is an extensive country park of almost 100 acres, which is a free area of the Discovery Park.
The grounds were the site of the former colliery heapstead and extensive conservation work over the last 15 years has resulted in its miraculous transformation into a popular recreational space.

Snibston Country Park Pic-nic area.

At the heart of this area is the Grange nature reserve which now comprises a late Victorian arboretum with a diverse range of mature native and foreign species of tree, a wetland area with boardwalk, an established wildflower meadow and two well stocked fishing lakes.
The rest of the park comprises a maturing landscape of trees and grassland intersected by numerous footpaths.
