The Woodfield Collection

The Woodfield Collection is a key element of the works on local military history held in the Record Office's library.  Presented on permanent loan in 1989 by J. W. Woodfield, the collection consists of a number of reference works relating principally to the Leicestershire Regiment, Leicestershire Territorials, Leicestershire Rifle Volunteers and Leicestershire Yeomanry.  It takes the form of a multi-volume catalogue of medals and other military items collected by Mr. Woodfield over a period of 20 years, painstakingly assembled and supplemented by other written and illustrative material such as newspaper cuttings, personal correspondence, photographs and postcards.  In most cases the details of medals (photographed throughout in colour) are supported by substantial biographical information relating to their recipients.

Mr. Woodfield has also produced a useful subject index to the collection (Class mark : L355).
