Copy Death Certificate

If you require a copy of a death certificate for a death that took place in Leicestershire then you should apply to the Leicestershire Register Office by letter, in person or by completing our application for a copy death certificate form and sending it to us at the address below.
The certificate can be collected from the office or can be posted out to you.  

PLEASE NOTE:
This service is ONLY available if the death occurred and was registered in the County of Leicestershire.

What information is required?
You will need to supply the following information:
  • Forename(s) and surname of deceased
  • Date of death
  • Place of death i.e. name of hospital or address where death occurred
  • Age of deceased
What is the cost of a Copy Death Certificate?
The cost of a Death Certificate is £9.00.
If you are writing to Leicestershire Register Office your cheque or postal order should be made payable to ‘Leicestershire County Council’ and a self-addressed stamped envelope should be included with your application.
Please allow 3 to 5 working days from receipt of request to process your application.

Please note we cannot undertake searches for a given event without a formal application accompanied by the relevant fee. This means an application cannot be made by telephone or e-mail.
