![]() Safety Testing of Children’s Cutlery, Feeding Utensils and Drinking EquipmentCutlery, feeding utensils and drinking equipment for use by children must be safe. It is possible that unsafe products may cause injury or even death.
RegulationsThe General Product Safety Regulations 2005 will control the safety of this type of product. These Regulations provide a legal framework to ensure that a producer or distributor supplies a safe product.
Relevant StandardsThe British Standard BS EN 14372, Child use and care articles – Cutlery and feeding utensils – Safety specifies requirements and tests that are applicable to cutlery such as spoons, forks, knives, food pushers, bowls and plates. It specifies safety requirements relating to the materials, construction, performance, packaging and labelling of cutlery and feeding utensils which are intended for use by children of up to 36 months of age.
The British Standard BS EN 14350, Child use and care articles – Drinking equipment specifies requirements for feeding teats, drinking accessories, feeding bottles and drinking cups. It includes methods for physical and chemical testing.
