Arts in Education ServicePerformance Opportunities in Music, Dance and Drama![]() Please click on one of the links below to access further information.
Performance is the ultimate goal of all the performing arts and, during term time, the service offers weekly classes and rehearsals in music, dance and drama.
These take place in the evenings and on Saturday mornings. Pupils aged seven years and above have the opportunity to join choirs, bands, orchestras, smaller instrumental ensembles and dance, and pupils aged eleven and over in drama. The range of styles is wide and includes Classical, Jazz, Afro Caribbean music, improvisation and work on scripts in drama, as well as Ballet, Contemporary Dance and Indian dance.
Access to some groups is through a yearly audition process and others are non-selective. There is a termly charge but all these activities are partially subsidised to keep costs to a minimum and to enable access for a wide range of students. Pupils' families in receipt of benefits are eligible for full or partial subsidies for membership of performance groups.
Arts in Education groups perform in major theatre and concert venues including the De Montfort Hall, Melton Theatre and The Civic Hall, Bedworth as well as our own theatre at Knighton Fields Centre and a range of other city and county venues. Some performance groups also represent their schools and their Councils at national and international events and festivals, the Edinburgh Festival for example, and on tours abroad.
