Specialist Teaching ServiceHearing Impairment Team NewsYouth Group Funding has now been made available to the Youth and Community Team to appoint a permanent Youth Worker to develop and support youth group activities for hearing impaired young people in Leicestershire.
This is a wonderful opportunity and we hope that the new provision will be in place from mid February of 2004. Most of the young hearing impaired children supported by the Leicestershire team attend their local mainstream schools so it is often the case that they might be the only pupil with a hearing loss in the school. Although this in itself is not a problem young people often express the wish that they could have the chance to meet other people who experience the same experiences as themselves. The aim is that the group will be a flexible one which will meet together for interesting acitivities such as bowling the cinema walking and other trips out. It is also hoped that e mail contacts and friendships will be developed.
