Vision Support Service
The Aims of the Vision Support Service are:
- To offer advice and support to all children and young people who have a visual impairment, their families, schools and other relevant professionals.
- To provide for children across the full age and ability range, including those with additional difficulties.
- To be a child focused team working co-operatively with others in the identification and assessment of children and young people with special educational needs arising from a visual impairment and the devising and implementation of individual education plans to meet those needs.
- To facilitate access to appropriate educational opportunities including the National Curriculum.
- To assist schools in developing SEN policies
- To support local and national initiatives to raise standards of teaching and learning, and maximise standards of achievement for pupils/students who have a visual impairment.
- To enhance the classroom skills of all school staff working with children with special needs arising from a visual impairment.
- To plan, organise and deliver training in the area of SEN appropriate to the needs of parents, school staff and other professionals, working with children and young people who have a visual impairment.
- To assist schools in the effective deployment, monitoring and evaluation of resources for pupils with a visual impairment
- To work in effective partnership with parents/carers and with other statutory and voluntary agencies in support of children and young people with special educational needs arising from a visual impairment.
- To work with others to equip children and young people who have a visual impairment with life competencies consistent with the abilities of each individual.
- To respond to the statutory requirements of the Code of Practice.
