Important Notice on LMS Contents Insurance Policy Endorsements

Your attention is drawn to the fact that new Policy Endorsements have been issued. Taking effect from the 1st April 2004 they are a response to the increasing risks that we face in protecting our equipment and our premises.
In brief all classrooms (including mobile ones) housing computers, interactive whiteboards, digital projectors or three or more electronic keyboards must be protected by an intruder alarm and the equipment clearly marked. Ceiling or wall mounted projectors must be fitted with an entrapment device. In addition all computer equipment must be stored at least 30cm from the ground when not in its normal location.  This is to reduce the risk of potential damage from flood and other water ingress.
PLEASE REMEMBER that it is a requirement of the cover to have a security survey carried out (free of charge) if your school or college has more than 100 computers.  Any security improvements recommended should obviously be implemented.  If your school or college meets the criteria and has not yet had a survey carried out, or you feel that you need security advice for your school anyway, please contact Education Administration, Tel 0116 305 6480/6376.

Schools I.T. Crime Prevention Advice

The message is clear - before you sign the cheque. STOP – THINK.
  • How secure is my school?
  • How secure will my new IT equipment be?
  • Will the new equipment attract the wrong kind of visitor to the school?
A few pounds spent on crime prevention can save thousands of pounds and a lot of heartache in the future.
  • Is your burglar alarm working?
  • Are the sensors in the right place?
  • Are the make, model & serial numbers of equipment recorded?
Remember if items are stolen to inform the manufacturer as well.  Yes, even stolen equipment develops faults and requires repair and can sometimes be tracked this way.
Clearly mark items with the school postcode and name. Consider the forensic property marking systems described above. Remember to keep your IT equipment in a cage or locked cabinet.  Lock the door to the room you keep it in. Make life harder for the thief.
Free Crime Prevention Advice is available from your local police crime prevention officer. Tel 0116 2222222
