Community Safety BureauLocal Authority Building SecurityIntroductionBuilding security, safety of staff & visitors is an important part of any managers’ role.
Leicestershire Constabulary in partnership with the local authority has made available a number of information & best practice booklets to assist you in reviewing your security and making the right choices.
Crime prevention & risk management should form part of your day to day working practices. It should be a standing agenda item for staff & management meetings.
Good security management is about being pro active rather than re active and prevention rather than detection.
Good security should be cost negative over the life of the security measure. Consider staff sickness rates, staff retention, the cost of replacing stolen or damaged equipment and lack of confidence in your establishment from visitors & potential customers.
Leicestershire Constabulary crime reduction officers offer a free service. They are trained in crime reduction and crime prevention through environmental design. They offer reasonable, realistic & cost commensurate security advice.
The Local Authority and the Leicestershire Constabulary Community Safety Bureau are working together looking at security and personal safety in local authority owned buildings, especially educational premises. As part of this partnership, security surveys have been undertaken in a large number of schools throughout Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland.
A booklet has now been completed as a result of this work. Whilst it is acknowledged that no two buildings are identical and that the design of the buildings and the lay out of the site will differ, many of the issues revolving around security are generic.
