Building Risk Management Group

Welcome to the website of the LCC Building Risk Management Group.
The Group exists to identify and implement practical ways of reducing the likelihood of damage to the Council's properties and, in doing so, to reduce the risk of injury to employees and other users of our properties, and of disruption to the services we provide.
The Group includes representatives of all service departments as well as representatives from Leicestershire Constabulary, Leics. Fire and Rescue Service, the Council's property insurers Zurich Municipal and insurance brokers Aon. As well as receiving technical support and advice from Property Services it also uses the services of a building risk consultant to carry out risk assessments, monitor new developments in risk reduction and trends in emerging problem areas.
Since it was formed more than ten years ago the Group has been successful because it has concentrated on practical measures to reduce risks to our properties. This website is intended to support this by making information on property risk reduction and control more easily available to all managers and employees. Our continuing message is that simple risk control measures can help to avoid huge costs and disruption as well as, at worst, risks of physical injury.
Every two years we carry out a risk assessment of all our properties in order to identify those properties that are most at risk from a variety of causes. We can then concentrate our attention on the highest risk issues and properties and make the best use of the limited funds available to us. In the past this has meant things like - contributing to security fencing or alarm systems for vulnerable sites, moving bins and sheds (major causes of arson) away from school buildings, and providing security cameras.
