Safeguarding Children in Education

Leicestershire Children and Young People’s Service considers the safeguarding of children and young people across the County as one of its most important tasks. We have, and will continue to, place at a premium the well-being and safety of our children and young people by supporting and enabling schools in the prevention of child abuse and neglect.
Our commitment towards excellence means that we will at all times endeavour to work in partnership with schools and other education-based providers to promote and safeguard the welfare of children through safeguarding training; compliance; advice; guidance and practical support.
The Leicestershire Children and Young People’s Service are, like many other statutory organisations that work with children and young people, guided in our actions by the Every Child Matters Agenda, which is aimed at protecting children and young people from harm and helping them achieve what they want in life.
To this end the service will seek to ensure that schools across the County create a safe environment where adults listen to children and young people’s concerns, and where children and young people are taught to protect themselves by developing the necessary skills and ability that promote positive self-esteem and assertiveness.

Director, Leicestershire Children and Young People’s Service
