Governor Development Service

The Leicestershire Governor Training and Development Programme

Governance is a key element in school leadership and this is reinforced by Ofsted inspections, which judge how well the governing body fulfils its responsibilities. The increasing demands on governance therefore require governing bodies to commit to a comprehensive and systematic development programme.
Governor Developement Service (GDS) is committed to ensuring that a quality training and development programme is on offer to enable governing bodies to fulfil their role. We have done this through identifying developments in school governance and governors training needs and offering new courses where required. GDS also reviews its training programme regularly to ensure they are relevant and meet the needs of governors.
The report below contains information about how governors evaluated governor training.
Training and development is offered in different ways:
  • In school training
  • Cluster training, and
  • Core programme
