About the team and its services

The team provides curriculum support in literacy for schools through:
  • implementation of the Primary National Strategy with a specific focus on literacy priorities in KS1 and KS2.
  • programme development for Leicestershire identified priorities for all primary schools.
Specific services provided by the team are:
  • School and Development Group curriculum support programmes for literacy.
  • Centrally organised in-service training for teachers, classroom assistants, subject leaders.
  • Regular network meetings for co-ordinators organised by Development Groups or countywide.
  • Briefings for headteachers.
  • Dissemination of good practice through the literacy website; (wordzone) Leicestershire guidance; demonstration lessons, case studies and workshops by practising teachers and curriculum leaders.
  • Links to other services supporting literacy improvement.
Other information
The Leicestershire Literacy Team works closely with the following services in the LA to promote literacy improvement:
Arts in Education, Community Education, Early Years Team, Ethnic Minorities Achievement Support Service, ICT, Library Services for Education, Special Educational Needs Team, Specialist Teaching Service, Traveller Education Service.
  • Accreditation for the Basic Skills Agency Quality Mark Award is available.
