If you are looking for a first teaching post, we hope that you will consider joining us. We greatly value the innovative new ideas and enthusiasm that NQTs contribute to the County and, in return, we work hard to provide a programme of support that gives you the best possible start in the profession.
Along with all other Local Authorities in England and Wales, Leicestershire is responsible for seeing that NQTs are supported through their induction period, which lasts 3 terms for someone on a full time contract. This is a responsibility we take very seriously.
As a Newly Qualified teacher Leicestershire you will:
You will be invited to attend a conference to welcome you to Leicestershire, when you can meet with other Newly Qualified Teachers and the support programme from the LA will be explained in more detail. We are also encouraging groups of schools to set up informal support networks on a local basis. Several areas of the county already have these and they are much valued by our new teachers.
In addition a wide range of subject based courses are made available throughout the year at both primary and secondary levels.
Specific courses for Newly Qualified Teachers this year have included Literacy and Numeracy for Key Stages 1 and 2, behaviour management, catering for children with Special Educational Needs, From Principles to Practice in the Foundation Stage, the role of the form tutor, residential education and becoming a subject leader. In addition, a wide range of subject-based courses are available at both primary and secondary levels.
