Emergency Management Section
Objectives
The Civil Contingencies Act places responsibilities on the County Council and subsequently the Emergency Management Section in respect of:

- co-operating with statutory partner agencies (through the Local Resilience Forum), and other organisations;
- sharing information with partner agencies as part of a culture of co-operation in contingency planning;
- assessing risks and ensuring that the multi-agency Local Resilience Forum compiles and publishes a Community Risk Register, to ensure that local responders make contingency arrangements that reflect and are proportionate to local risks;
- communicating with the public, thereby ensuring that local communities are kept informed about potential risks;
- preparing contingency plans (the first time that this has been a statutory duty);
- undertaking business continuity planning, so that authorities are able to continue to deliver essential functions in the event of an emergency so far as is reasonably practicable, and
- promoting the need to undertake business continuity planning to local businesses and voluntary agencies.
The Emergency Management Section provides the Council’s ‘first point-of-contact’ response to emergency incidents, and to provide effective logistic support to our emergency management partner agencies when required, on a 24/7/365 basis.
