Sence Valley Forest Park

One of the lakes created at Sence Valley
The Forestry Commission now own and manage Sence Valley Forest Park The site was initially owned by Leicestershire County Council whilst the park was being created. The County Council continues to work in partnership with the Forestry Commission on aspects of the park.

Location

North of Ibstock on the A447 Ravenstone Road, LE67 6NW, North West Leicestershire.

Description

A 60-hectare former open-cast coal site, which has been transformed with extensive tree planting and the creation of lakes, interlinked with a series of paths.

Common Blue butterflies (Polyommatus icarus) often visit Coleorton Wood

There are stone-surfaced paths, some of which have steep slopes.

The entrance has a height restriction barrier of 2.2m. Anyone wishing to enter the site with a larger vehicle should contact the Forestry Commission district office on 01889 586593 at least 48 hours in advance of a visit.
