Community Heritage Initiative
The Community Heritage Initiative is working to encourage local communities to record and celebrate the biodiversity and natural heritage of Leicestershire and Rutland.

Country Parks
Leicestershire has many country parks and other open spaces for you to visit. At these you can engage in a variety of activities, from walking, sports and excursions, to learning about Leicestershire's wildlife, history and heritage.

Leicestershire is rural England at its best, a county where timeless villages really do exist and uplands revealing far off horizons contrast with secluded, almost secret valleys. Needless to say, it is ideal riding country as well.

Tree management and care, the Free Trees Scheme, forest and woodland development and foresty services for local businesses.

Landscape and Woodland Strategy
The Landscape and Woodland Strategy provides guidelines for conserving and enhancing distinctive landscapes and expanding the woodland cover of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland in ways appropriate to each landscape character area.

Historic and Natural Environment Team
The team was created to make local heritage information more accessible and is developing systems to make the information available to many more people. High quality accurate environmental data helps everyone, from school students to business developers.

Holly Hayes Environment & Heritage Resources Centre
Holly Hayes Environment and Heritage Resources Centre has collected a unique databank of information on plants, animals and the habitats where they are found in Leicestershire and Rutland; it is also the definitive home for wildlife records locally and is recognised as a national model for Biological Records.

Rights of Way
If you want a short circular stroll or embark on a 100 mile long distance path, you'll find it in Leicestershire. The Rights of Way network and the County Council produce a number of leaflets and booklets to help guide your way through the wonderful network of footpaths, bridleways & byways.
