Remembrance Day 2011 - Photo Gallery

Burleigh Community College

Remembrance Roll of Honour
Burleigh Community College in Loughborough rededicated the roll of honour that they conserved this year, on Friday 11th November.
The roll came from the original town centre site of the school, then called Loughborough College School. It came to the new site but had suffered from the effects of exposure to light. A project was led by library staff who noticed that it was in need of some care. The War Memorials Project, Museums Conservator and Record Office provided them with a condition report, and recommended conservation techniques in March 2011. The frame was to be restored and calligraphy reporoducedThey took it upon themselves to raise the money for the task, and along with a generous donation from the Old Boys Association enabled all work to go ahead. This included restoring the wooden frame, and removing the original calligraphy roll and another produced by local calligrapher, Kathy Sedar (photographed in front of her work). The original roll will be preserved in appropriate conditions, whilst the new roll has gone on display in the school's library. Congratulations to Burleigh Community College!
Burleigh Community College would welcome any information on ex-students who were killed in conflict. Get in touch with the War Memorials Project if you think you can help.
