Recycling

In Leicestershire we currently have a recycling rate of over 54%
but we can build on this success and recycle even more of our household waste. The Leicestershire Waste
Partnership is encouraging residents to think about recycling both at 'Home and Away'.
Recycling Facts
If we all make a few small changes as individuals, together we can make big differences.
Read the recycling facts below to see some of the many benefits recycling our waste can have.
If the 15 million plastic bottles used each day were recycled
it would be the equivalent of taking 73,000 cars off the road annually – that’s
over half the number of cars entering London on any weekday.
If everyone in England recycled just one more drinks can each
during Recycle Week, we’d save enough energy to light over three quarters of a million
20W low energy light bulbs constantly for a year
If every UK household recycled one electrical item, approximately
73,500 tonnes could be diverted from landfill.

Many of Leicestershire's districts and boroughs now provide 'recycling on the go'
bins in public areas, particularly in town centres. This allows people to recycle their waste when out
and about, so why not look out for one of these recycling bins when you are out in Leicestershire. They
may differ slighlty in design depending on which district you are in, so make sure you check what can
go in the bins.
If you want to know where these bins are located contact your local
council.
