![]() ![]() Environment and Transport DepartmentLeicestershire Highways Operations (LHO) is the trading arm of the Environment and Transport Department of Leicestershire County Council.
The County Council itself is a 4 star authority and was voted Local Government Chronicle Council of the Year 2009.
LHO’s primary business is the efficient and effective delivery of best value highways services for the County Council, responsible for managing and maintaining 2,575 miles of roads across the county.
There is both expertise and professional experience within LHO and the wider, Environment and Transport Department, to provide a comprehensive suite of services in highway design, planning, construction, maintenance and associated civil engineering works.
LHO directly employs over 200 trained operatives, backed up by an experienced, professional and technically qualified management structure.
As a BSI Accredited, Quality Assured organisation, LHO is committed to providing its customers with the highest standard of service. Its policy of continuous improvement means that LHO invests in the on-going training of its employees and is proactively involved in the development of new innovative techniques and processes.
In order to expand its range of services and build on a reputation for delivering quality, LHO has entered into a partnership with Tarmac UK, which has greatly increased the service portfolio.
The partnership combines a wealth of professional expertise and a comprehensive range of services including highway construction, project management, maintenance and other associated activities.
LHO’s contracts have varied in size and complexity ranging from £1k to £1M, acting as both principal contractor and major sub-contractor.
Health and SafetyLeicestershire Highways recognise that occupational health and safety is an integral part of a good overall management system. It is the intention to maintain health and safety at all levels of the organisation to ensure that we are meeting both our legal and moral duties as an employer.
To this end Leicestershire Highways have a written Health and Safety Policy and constantly carries out:
Leicestershire Highways employs a full time qualified Health and Safety advisor to ensure health and safety maintains a high profile within the organisation.
Quality AssuranceLeicestershire Highways (formerly Leicestershire DLO and Highway Design and Maintenance) have had an accredited Quality System since 1991 and is part of the Environment and Transport Department within Leicestershire County Council. It was recently re-assessed and was found to comply with ISO BS9001:2008.
