Integrated Transport Schemes (ITS)

Leicestershire County Council is responsible for a number of road improvement schemes across the County.
The ITS section designs, develops, and consults on various types of schemes including road safety schemes, cycle tracks, pedestrian improvements, bus route improvements and safer routes to school.
Funding is allocated to help meet the transport objectives set in the Leicestershire Local Transport Plan (LTP). In some instances additional funds are made available from external sources.

The objectives for the years 2006 to 2011 are:
  • Tackling congestion
  • Reducing road casualties
  • Improving access to facilities
  • Improving air quality
  • Reducing the impact of traffic
  • Improving road condition
Programmes of schemes which best meet these objectives are continuously being developed. The 2007/08 Capital Programme of Integrated Transport Schemes, lists the schemes which are considered most likely to help meet the above objectives within the funding available, this financial year.
