Hinckley, junction of A47 Normandy Way and Cloverfield (access to Morrisons supermarket)
Trial road safety scheme
Background
The junction has a poor accident record, and we are looking to address this in partnership with Morrisons supermarket, as Cloverfield forms the main access route to the store.
This is one of a number of locations on the A47 between the A5 and Earl Shilton identified as appropriate for treatment to reduce accidents.
The Proposals
As many of the accidents at this junction involve right turning traffic emerging from Cloverfield, we are proposing to set up a trial scheme to direct all traffic left towards the Stoke Road roundabout. Traffic wanting to head towards Barwell and Earl Shilton will need to make a u-turn round the roundabout.
The aim of this new layout is to improve road safety and traffic flow out of the junction.
Trial Period
The trial layout will be in place initially for one month, starting on 16th June. It will be set out using traffic cones, and will be monitored at the Cloverfield and Cornfield junctions, as well as at the Stoke Road roundabout.
Scheme Objectives
- Reduction in accidents at the A47 / Cloverfield junction
- Improvement in traffic flow out of Cloverfield
Your Comments
All comments and queries will be welcome for the duration of the trial, which will initially run from 16th June to 14th July, 2008.
What happens next?
Once the trial has finished we shall analyse the traffic flows and accident records, and this will give us a basis for deciding on the most appropriate permanent solution for the junction.
A permanent scheme may be proposed for inclusion in the 2009/10 Transport Capital Programme.
