Burton on the Wolds, Barrow Road
Proposed Speed Reduction Scheme
Background
In early 2006, Burton on the Wolds Primary School adopted a School Travel Plan (STP), which identified how the pupils travelled to the school and explored possible ways to enable travel by more sustainable modes, e.g, walking or cycling. The STP idenitifed the need for a School 20mph Zone to reduce vehicle speeds around the school entrance.
The concerns from the school have been taken into account in the development of the proposals, which are aimed at controlling vehicle speeds and improving pedestrian safety.
The Proposals
The proposed scheme is shown on the plan overleaf and consists of:-
- Two flat topped speed tables to reduce traffic speed.
- An advisory 20mph school safety zone which consists of yellow backed signs with flashing amber lights operating at school start and finish times.
- Enhanced village entry signs and lining.
