Melton Mowbray Proposed Norman Way Junction ImprovementsNewsProposed junction improvement at Norman Way / Thorpe End to start soon.
Scheme HistoryBackgroundThe A606 (Nottingham to Oakham), A607 (Leicester to Grantham) and A6006 Asfordby Road, are important County roads that carry high traffic volumes. These roads meet in Melton Mowbray town centre, on Norman Way. As a result, Norman Way suffers from heavy congestion with long delays for vehicle travellers.
Leicestershire County Council carried out a major public consultation exercise in March 2005 on traffic issues in Melton Mowbray. The majority of respondents indicated that a number of junction improvements were required on Norman Way, together with a bypass/ring road around Melton Mowbray. As a result, a programme of improvements to the three key town centre junctions along Norman Way at Wilton Road, Scalford Road and Thorpe End have been included in the Leicestershire Local Transport Plan over the next 5 years (2006 to 2011) together with plans for a longer term bypass for the town.
