Oadby, B582 Wigston Road

Proposed Cycle Facilities Phase III

Background

Within our Local Transport Plan (LTP) 2006-2011 the objectives of providing a cycle route connecting South Wigston, Wigston and Oadby has been identified. This cycle route will provide an alternative to car use for some commuting, school and social journeys.
Phase 1 introduced cycle facilities along the B582 Oadby Road / Wigston Road from the Wakes Road Roundabout to Sandy Rise, completed in 2004. Phase 2 continues the route to Kenilworth Drive and was constructed this year. Phase 3 will continue the route towards Oadby town centre and provides links with the Leisure Centre and Country Park.

The Proposals

The proposals are shown on drawing number 3240.00/Z1/1/2 and include:
  • Upgrading the existing traffic signals at the Brabazon Road junction to accommodate toucan crossings
  • Flush kerbs and signing and lining to provide an on-carriageway cycleway on the service road to the northeast of the Brabazon Road junction.
  • Shared-use footway/cycle track on the B582 Wigston Road from the service road and extending to the junction with Garden Close.
  • Footway widening with flush kerbs and signing and lining to provide a shard-use footway/cycle track on the south side of the B582 Wigston Road linking with Rosemead Drive extending to the junction with Hidcote Road.

What happens next?

The success of these proposals is dependent on the support of the local community and comments received help elected members to decide how the scheme should progress. The final outcome of the consultations will be posted on the website.
