Enderby Park and RideNewsPress release 10th September 2008 - Roman Cemetery revealed at EnderbyA small Roman rural cemetery containing six skeletons has been discovered at an archaeological dig in Enderby.
The human burials were found during an excavation at the new park and ride site alongside Iron Age, Roman and medieval finds including pottery, a denarius - a type of Roman silver coin, and a number of brooches.
Analysis of the skeletons, found close to the line of the former Fosse Way Roman road, will now take place to identify the gender, age at death, health and life style of the individuals they represent.
The SchemeThe scheme will deliver a high quality, frequent bus service between the proposed site, at Enderby, close to M1 junction 21 and the Fosse Park retail park to the City centre.
The aims of the implementation of Park and Ride are:
(a) Assist regeneration of Leicester City Centre by facilitating the increase in the number of person trips into the city
(b) Reduce the volume of traffic entering the city centre from the junction 21 area.
(c) Offer sustainable alternatives to drivers and encourage significant modal shift
Elements of the ProjectPark and Ride SitePlanning permission has been granted for a new park and ride site, at the junction of the B4114 (St Johns) and Leicester Lane, Enderby, opposite the police headquarters and near Fosse Park. Traffic will access the site via a new traffic signal junction on B4114 St Johns and a T-junction on Leicester Lane. Facilities at the site will include: ![]()
Complementary proposals have been developed for the road network in the area around the motorway junction (21) to address exisiting problems. Details can be viewed at the Junction 21 area homepage.
Express Bus Service![]() New state of the art buses will be used to provide maximum comfort with space for seating, wheelchairs and pushchairs. Buses will be easily accessible and powered by low-emmission engines. The bus shown is an example only, but a new fleet will be put in place with the operator for the service Buses will travel to and from the site via the Outer Ring Road and the existing bus priority route on Hinckley Road (A47).
