Supported Activities for People with Learning Disabilities

community opportunities
Support to attend activities and get out and about in Leicestershire is called Community Opportunities. This used to be called Day Services.
Getting support in the day no longer means going to a large building, in a bus only used by lots of other people who use the service.
Community Opportunities offer people more choice and opportunities to do things in their local community, with services being available in the daytime, weekends and evenings, and with the opportunity to do more activities in the community.
valuing people
'Valuing People' says that we do need to support people with learning disabilities to do more things.
We want to support people to do these things in their own community just like everyone else. Things like:
  • Employment
  • Volunteering
  • Learning to do more for yourself
  • Going to college
  • Meeting friends

Community Opportunities has a charter
The charter (370kb .pdf) tells people what they can expect from Community Opportunities
Things like:
  • we will provide services that meet your needs
  • we will listen to what you want to do
  • we will work together to find new ways of making your service better
  • we will help you do more for yourself
  • we will support you to use services and activities in the community

We will continue to talk to people that use Community Opportunities, to make sure we are providing them with the right services.
