Help and support for carers

What is a Carer's Assessment?

A carer's assessment is a discussion with a member of our staff about the type and amount of care you are giving and the services the Department can provide to help you.
  • In Leicestershire, adult carers who are providing in excess of 10 hours of care per week for a person age 18 or over, have a right to a carer’s assessment.
  • Young people caring for an adult family member will receive an assessment even if they are caring for less than 10 hours per week.
This assessment can happen even if the person for whom you are caring refuses help (an assessment) for themselves.
