Help and support for carers

How to get help:

  • Contact your local Social Care office or get someone to make this contact for you.
You will be put through to a member of staff on duty in the ‘Access Team’. Access Teams are the first point of contact for all general enquiries. or
  • If the person for whom you are caring is in hospital or about to leave hospital, ask to speak to the social worker based at the hospital.
At first contact, you will be asked a few questions to help the Department determine what services would be helpful in your situation and where you can access the services.
You may be offered an ‘Assessment’ and/or sign-posted to another organisation that may be helpful to you in your caring situation.
See Benefits for Carers (.PDF) for information about the welfare benefits you may be entitled to as a carer, how to claim them, and how to seek further advice and information.
