Help for People with Learning Disabilities

Social Care Services believe that people with learning disabilities have the right to choose what is best for them and how they want to live their lives.
If you have a learning disability, this section will tell you about services which might help you.
If anyone is concerned about someone being bullied or hurt in some way (abused), you can get help through Keeping Safe.

Applying for Help

Social Care Services have lots of staff, like social workers and day service staff, who support you to live the life you choose. To do this, they need to know some information about you and the way you live. This is called an Assessment.
The Assessment is a report, which is written by a social worker. They will speak to you and your family to find out: Meeting
  • the help you already get
  • the things you can and can’t do for yourself
  • where you are living
  • where you want to live
  • who you choose to live with
  • what you choose to do in the daytime and evenings.
You can involve as many people as you want in your assessment. The assessment will also look at the help that your carers or  family need.
Remember it’s your choice and decision where you live and what you do.
Someone you know may need to contact Social Care Services for help. They may have problems reading or understanding this web page. If so, contact your local office for advice. Or speak to any of the staff you know at the home or day centre.
