Piloting

What is Piloting?
Piloting involves the controlled introduction of some change or innovation in a part of the service to test whether it is suitable for implementation across the whole service and to identify any changes that need to be made. It enables feedback and evaluation prior to a larger launch.
What does a Pilot achieve?
Pilots allow for the live testing of a service or project with structured feedback and evaluation. It is often used when the proposed changes are likely to be controversial or are new or innovative to the service or locality.
When will we use a Pilot?
We will use a pilot when we are:
  • testing an idea or activity on a small scale;
  • proposed changes are controversial, radical, far-reaching and expensive;
  • looking for qualitative and quantitative feedback on major policy proposals.
