Overview & Scrutiny

The Overview & Scrutiny Area comprises:-
The Scrutiny Commission and five Scrutiny Committees to scrutinise County Council functions.
The Scrutiny Bodies are politically balanced but do not include Cabinet members or the Chairman of the County Council.
County Council Functions:
Scrutiny Committees:
  • - meet in public
  • - Scrutinise Council policy and the Cabinet and officers
  • - advise on proposed changes to Council policy
  • - scrutinise budget proposals
  • - consider matters raised by individual members and members of the public, eg petitions
In addition to the Scrutiny Commission there are five Scrutiny Committees:
There are separate overview and scrutiny of health service functions
