Introduction to Snibston

Snibston is set in the heart of the National Forest on the site of a former colliery. The award winning attraction explores the impact of technology on our every day lives with over 90 indoor and outdoor interactive exhibits. For more information about the different galleries and exhibitions on offer, including the Fashion Gallery and Extra Ordinary, please use the navigation bar to the left of the screen. If you have any enquiries about visiting Snibston call our information line on 01530 278 444.

Pitt the Colliery Engine

Pitt the Colliery Engine is regrettably out of action for the forseeable future due to mechanical issues. We are working hard to fix the problem and will get Pitt back on the rails again as soon as possible. Visitors are encouraged to call to check that the colliery railway is running before starting their journey to Snibston.

New Exhibitions Coming to Snibston

Coalville Photographers

Coalville Photography Group return to Snibston for a third successive year to display a collection of work by their members. This display promises to comprise of a real variety of subjects from local landscapes to portraits. The exhibition opens on 27th July and runs until 27th September.

Conservation Day Cancelled

Unfortunately we have had to cancel Conservation Day, scheduled for the 7th September. This is due to a lack of rural tradespeople and activity providers being able to attend. The decision was made to cancel rather than continue with an event that may not have provided a good value experience for visitors. Please be reassured however that all other summer events are going ahead as planned. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Design Hoard on Display at Snibston: Extended Until October

Scarf Hoarder Exhibition
The latest exhibition to be displayed at Snibston’s Fashion Gallery is the ‘Scarf Hoarder’ which consists of a selection of over 200 classic design pieces that represent a part of the Siddons Scarf Collection.
The Siddons Collection contains around 1,500 headsquares, handkerchiefs and scarves. The collection has been put together in its entirety by one local Leicestershire resident, Brenda Barnard. Her enthusiasm and personal passion for the headscarf has been turned into this amazing archive which she donated to the County Council’s Museum Service in 2002.
The exhibition has been extended until October 2008, normal admission prices apply.

All of our Futures: Snibston

Snibston is undertaking an ambitious £15 million project to transform the site into a visitor attraction of the future. We would like to capture your views on the initial proposals, developed from previous public consultation. More about the plans for the site.
