A50 roundabout closures

Works will start again in January

Lane restrictions on the A50 roundabout approaches to the Glenfield Turn and County Hall will be lifted while improvement works are halted over the Christmas and New Year period.

Work starts again on 4 January. However, access to the roundabout itself will not be possible over two weekends in January to allow road resurfacing to be completed. The roads will close at 8pm on Friday 15 and re-open at 6am on Monday 18 January, and close again at 8pm on Friday 22 and re-open at 6am on Monday 25 January.

During the two weekends, diversion routes will be clearly signed and traffic marshals will be on duty to provide advice to motorists if needed.

We are very conscious of the major disruption to motorists, particularly during these two weekends in January and thank everyone for their continued patience.

“Once the work has been completed, motorists, cyclists and pedestrians will see their journey times improve

Anybody visiting Leicestershire County Council, the Gynsills or the Premier Inn on Championship Way will have to do so via Gynsill Lane. Leaving the area will only be possible by using the A50 towards Leicester City Centre. Diversion routes will be signed.

Glenfield Hospital can only be accessed via the signed diversion route.

Motorists will not be able to access the Shell petrol station on Groby Road during the closure.

The A50 roundabout improvement work is due to be completed by March 2016 and will provide improved facilities for pedestrians and cyclists as well as increased capacity for motorists.
