There are stories galore for people of all ages as the exciting new Festival of Stories project gets underway.

The event – which has been created by Leicestershire County Council – launched on Saturday to bring almost 50 family-friendly events featuring 30 different arts specialists to libraries, community venues and adult learning centres across Leicestershire until Sunday, 22 August.

Festival of Stories aims to inspire people of all ages with a wide range of events, including storytelling, theatre workshops, author talks, writing workshops, dance art and music.

People are being encouraged to share their own stories and take part in communal activities based around the themes of the festival – Stories to Inspire, Creating Stories and Stories of Us.

Some of the dozens of activities taking place at libraries and other venues around the county include theatre performances, author talks, puppetry, dance and drama workshops, yarn bombing, collaborative story creation, walks and treasure hunts.

Online activities are also taking place, these include a series of interactive story-themed workshops for children aged 4-10, a talk by Leicester author Bali Rai on the lost voices in British historical fiction and a workshop for aspiring comic creators aged 15-25.

The workshops can all be booked online at www.cultureleicestershire.co.uk/festival-of-stories

Several of the on-site events are also being livestreamed, including talks on Roman Britain and memories of old Coalville, a theatre performance, a Q&A with a panel of authors, two story-telling sessions and a workshop which will mix storytelling with Makaton signing and singing. All livestreamed events can be seen at www.facebook.com/CultureLeics
