Tailor made tips to get fitter
Thousands of Leicestershire households are being given the chance to receive tailor-made tips on how to improve their health.
Leicestershire County Council is backing the Government’s Games4Life campaign, by offering people a personalised activity plan.
Everyone who completes a five minute questionnaire to assess their fitness will receive a free, personalised activity plan for their whole family.
Ernie White, the county council’s cabinet member for health, said: We all live busy lives and it’s easy to get stuck in a rut and take our fitness for granted.
This is a quick and easy way of assessing your fitness and suggesting tips to improve your long term health – whether it’s by using the stairs instead of the lift, riding your bike more or doing some gardening.
Every bit of activity helps – you don’t need to be an Olympic athlete! I enjoy walking and I use the stairs at County Hall, unless I’m in a rush.”
Games4life is part of the Government’s Change4Life campaign, which aims to encourage people to lead healthier lives.
Any Leicestershire resident who wants to complete the survey can do so online, at http://www.nhs.uk/Change4Life/Pages/games4life.aspx
Background:
The 47,000 households in Loughborough, Melton, Coalville and South Wigston due to receive paper copies of the forms are in areas that, according to public health research, would benefit most from this initiative. A further 5,000 forms will be available through libraries in the survey area.
