Parking fines also known as Penalty Charge Notices (PCN) are issued to vehicles parked illegally.

There are 2 levels of charges for parking fines:

  • £50 for lower level contraventions such as parking for longer than restrictions permit
  • £70 for higher level contraventions such as parking on double yellow lines or parking in a taxi rank

The parking fine is reduced by 50% if it is paid within 14 days.

You can challenge a parking fine if you feel it should not be paid.

If the parking fine is not paid within 28 days and there is no challenge then the owner of a vehicle is liable for the penalty charge notice, even if they were not driving the vehicle when the parking fine was issued.

Making payment

Payment of the parking fine will close the case and there will be no further correspondence.

You can pay for your parking fine online. It may take up to 24 hours after the issue of the PCN before this facility can be used.

To pay your Penalty Charge Notice online you’ll need:

  • your debit or credit card
  • your PCN number
  • your vehicle registration

PCN numbers start with two letters, not a letter and a number i.e. VI is not V1 and VO is not V0.
