Buying a second-hand car

For many people this is the second most expensive purchase you’ll make other than when you buy a property.

When considering the purchase of a used vehicle there are some simple checks you can carry out:

  • MOT history
  • service history
  • accident / recall history

These checks can help you protect yourself from purchasing a faulty, un-roadworthy, clocked or stolen car, or from an online seller posing as a private seller (this can restrict your rights should anything go wrong)

Check a used vehicle you’re buying – provides helpful advice to follow before you see the vehicle and when you go to see the vehicle.
