Communities Fund

We launched a communities fund in March 2020 to help groups and volunteers carry on supporting vulnerable people across the county during COVID-19.

Leicestershire County Council’s Communities Fund was launched in March to ensure that community-based organisations could continue to carry out vital work, despite the impact coronavirus is having on their finances.

To date, the fund has awarded over £1.5m to 220 projects across Leicestershire.

In a third round of funding, an extra £600,000 is being ploughed into the fund – taking the total to over £2m.

From Tuesday 5 January 2021, community groups in county lockdown areas can apply for a share of the £600,000. The move is designed to support people who are vulnerable or shielding and bolster mental health and wellbeing support.

Round three will have an additional focus on supporting community groups who are providing a vital service to local people during the pandemic, including:

• support for people who are described as clinically extremely vulnerable
• the provision of welfare and associated support for vulnerable and disadvantaged people and families, including money/debt advice services; employment related support; food bank and associated food provisions; and access to other essential supplies and equipment
• support to improve the mental health and wellbeing of people affected by the pandemic, including projects which reduce isolation and loneliness.

The deadline for applications was 22nd January 2021
