Apprenticeships explained

An apprenticeship is a work- based training programme designed to give you valuable work experience while earning a wage. You'll gain job-specific skills to meet your employer’s needs and will work alongside an experienced member of staff, who will be your mentor, to gain the relevant experience and skills. As an apprentice you will have to complete 20% off-the-job training, either in a classroom or in other ways as recommended by your employer or training provider.

  • All vacancies in England are advertised at GOV.UK Find an apprenticeship.
  • Register on the site to access to all vacancies in Leicestershire from all training providers.

Benefits to employers

GoLearn works with employers to design an apprenticeship programme to meet your organisational needs. We can tailor content around your job descriptions and skills gaps to make the training relevant to your occupational area.

Apprenticeships can be used to upskill existing staff into a new role or to bring new employees into your business. We can support you with advertising apprenticeship vacancies and recruitment to make the process easier for your business.

Apprenticeships give your employees the skills required to carry out their job efficiently and must be paid at least the National Minimum Wage for apprentices.

Employers must commit to supporting a minimum of 20% paid time learning knowledge, skills and behaviors required to complete the apprenticeship, and support maths and English learning up to level 2. If you are interested in training apprentices within your business, then please contact us at

Leicestershire Adult Learning Service offer training on a range of apprenticeships to employers across Leicestershire and the region.
