Leicestershire had a visit from inspectors to look at SEND services that are available. They listened to the experiences of families who work with and receive support from these services. The inspectors that visited felt that there were two areas that we need to improve:
- How different people who are delivering a service, e.g. carrying out assessments or supporting your child by working better together
- Education, Health and Care (EHC) plans – this is the plan which explains a child or young person’s needs and how different people will help your child with their learning in school or college
The inspectors sent out their report and our ideas as to how we will change things for families has been agreed with Ofsted and CQC. This is known as a Written Statement of Action and is a document setting out how this will make a difference for families.
A survey was open to parents/carers and young people from 16 - 27 September 2020.
If you were able to complete the survey, we would like to thank you very much for your responses. These have been read and the common themes have been included within the actions under the two areas of focus. The answers will be used to help us to improve things for your child and family.
SEND and Inclusion Strategy
Some of the replies you gave were also about other areas of concern that didn’t fit in with the Written Statement of Action. These have been included within the SEND and Inclusion Strategy action plan which is about all SEND services within the Local Authority and health services. Please be assured that all of your contributions have been gratefully received and we will be working closely with families as we travel on our improvement journey, so that we can continue to make progress in making a positive difference to yourselves, wider families and especially those children and young people with SEND.
The SEND and Inclusion Strategy can be found on our SEND strategic developments page.
Thank you again for taking the time to explain your experiences and how services can be improved.
