Draft Leicestershire Healthy Weight Strategy
This consultation is now closed (it ran from 2 November to 27 December 2020). The comments you submitted will help shape the final strategy that will be considered by cabinet in 2021.
Maintaining a healthy weight is important for overall wellbeing. More than half (61%) of adults and a third (30%) of year 6 primary school children living in Leicestershire are overweight or obese. This increases their risk of having long-term conditions like type 2 diabetes and reduces expected lifespan. There is also emerging evidence that being obese increases the risk of developing complications of Covid-19.
This strategy is our commitment to work together with Leicestershire residents and a range of sectors, including food, health, education, planning, transport, sport and leisure, and economic development. To share an understanding of the issues, agree actions and create an environment that encourages people to make healthy choices and supports our communities to live and age well.
