Work Clubs

The GREAT Project: Skills for finding jobs and access to IT facilities.

GREAT Project

GREAT Project

The Getting Ready for Employment or Training (GREAT) Project is a programme designed to help individuals within families, who are currently out of work, move towards employment or training. Individuals are given support to overcome any barriers they face through a variety of channels, including one-to-one sessions and work placements.

The project is a partnership of multiple organisations, inlcuding Leicestershire Couty Council, and is delivered by Voluntary Action LeicesterShire, a charity dedicated to bettering the lives of the local community. The GREAT Project is funded by the European Social Fund and the National Lottery, through the Big Lottery Fund.

Work Clubs operate within libraries, ensuring participants have access to IT facilities outside of the Work Club for job search and self-employment research. They deliver:

  • CV writing skills
  • Job search using computers
  • Guidance on how to fill in application forms
  • Use of email
  • Interview skills
  • Links to training and volunteering

The Work Clubs offer a holistic approach which is focused on the needs of the individual participants.

Having Work Clubs in local areas ensures they have the flexibility to support specific local needs across the whole of the county and city.
