Be a Wild World Hero this Winter!

Keep children reading during winter with the the Mini Winter Reading Challenge!

This year, The Reading Agency teamed up with WWF UK for the Wild World Heroes Summer Reading Challenge - exploring nature and action for the environment through reading. Now the Heroes are back to help with the Winter Mini Challenge!

Join the Wild World Heroes as they embark on an Arctic adventure to find out about the creatures that live there. Find out about the environmental issues facing this precious, remote place and even spot a Narwhal or two.

Taking part

Taking part in the Winter Mini Challenge is simple. Read at least three books between 1 December and 16 January and add them to your online profile to earn fun digital rewards!

You'll find loads of other great stuff on the website too, including games, book reviews, reading activities and content from the best children’s authors and illustrators around.

The Winter Mini Challenge encourages children to keep up their reading habits over the winter holidays, with a free-to-access website featuring rewards for reading and reviewing books.

To take part in the Winter Mini Challenge, children simply read three or more books – these can be any books of their choice. Every time they finish a book, they add it to their Challenge website profile and leave a short book review.

Reaching their online reading goal will unlock a limited-edition virtual badge and a special Winter Mini Challenge certificate to print off and keep!

For parents

For parents the Reading Agency has a Home Zone and Library Zone on the website with more information on reading, the Challenges and the website.

There is also a Summer Reading Challenge Facebook page so that parents can keep up to date with news and opportunities. The Reading Agency also holds online events like draw-alongs and story-time sessions as well as competitions for book bundles and more!

Challenge start date: 1 December 2021.
Challenge end date: 16 January 2022.
